Yoho Pass - Burgess Pass Circuit

From the shores of the Emerald Lake, the trail hikes up to the Yoho pass with on the way a small waterfall. At the trail junction, it turns right toward the Burgess Pass, which will ascends along the Wapta Mountain bringing different rocks sceneries, meadows, views of Emerald Lake, President Range and glaciers. From the Burgess pass, the route goes downhill in switchbacks to the end in the forest featuring western red cedar.

Yoho Lake (from Emerald Lake)

From the shores of the Emerald Lake, the trail leaves the lake and crosses a lightly forest before the climb to the Yoho pass starts. The path passes a small waterfall and gives a better look on the Emerald Lake on the way up. Finally, a uphill hike into the forest ends at the junction with the Wapta Highline Trail. Six hundred meters ahead is the small and peaceful Yoho Lake.

Lake O'Hara

Lake O’Hara can be reached by the shuttle bus from the parking lot or by foot, if you walk the 11 km access road or the Cataract Brook Trail. From the lake, several trails from easy to tough will bring you through this beautiful and popular area. Among many nice things, Lake Oesa, Lefroy Lake, Opabin Prospect, Lake McArthur and Lake O’Hara as itself are the highlights of the area.

Iceline Trail

Starting from Takakkaw Falls, the Iceline is one of the most popular and scenic trails in Yoho. It begins with a steep climb bringing you to the Emerald Glacier and offering a good view of the Valley. You will pass along three small glacier lakes before going down to the junction of Little Yoho Valley trail. From there, two return options: by the Yoho Valley or by the Celeste Lake connector.

The trail leading to the Laughing Falls is pretty easy with just a little bit of uphill. On the way, three points of interest: Angel’s Staircase, Point Lace Falls and Lake Duchesnay.

Twin Falls

From Takakkaw Falls, the easy Yoho Valley Trail passes several waterfalls and a lake such as Angel’s Staircase, Point Lace Falls, Lake Duchesnay and Laughing Falls. After the Laughing Falls campground, at the junction with the Little Yoho Valley Trail, the route keeps going north crossing the Twin Falls Creek and giving few views on the Twin Falls. At the Yoho Glacier Trail junction, the path ascends to the left until reaching the impressive Twin Falls. Among many return options, the Marpole Connector features the Marpole Lake and a path passing through an imposing rock slide.

Hamilton Lake

From the Emerald Lake, this trail runs in the dense forest to bring you 700 metres further to Hamilton Falls: a cascade that finds his way through a narrow and steep rock staircase. From there, the climb through the forest becomes steeper and then, moderate and constant. As the trail crosses open slopes with overview on the Kicking Horse valley, you are about to reach the lake contains between Mount Carnavon & Emerald Peak.

Paget Lookout

The first 1.4 km climbs in the forest to an intersection with the Sherbrooke Lake trail. At this point, the trail branches right to the lookout. The ascend becomes steeper and through open slopes for some sections. As you go up through switchbacks, just behind, few glimpses of the Sherbrooke Lake. The Paget Lookout and his old cabin offer impressive views of the Kicking Horse-Bow Valley, Lake O’Hara area and mountains around.

Sherbrooke Lake

This easy trail follows the same route than Paget Lookout trail for the first 1.4 km. Most of the elevation gain, 165 m, comes in this first part of the trail. After the intersection with the Paget Lookout, it is a quite easy and short hike to the lake. The Sherbrooke Lake is a nice lake seats between the Mount Ogden and Paget Peak.
